Lower back & pubic symphysis pain during pregnancy

Lower back and pubic symphysis pain during pregnancy are contributed by multiple factors including deconditioning, hormonal changes, increased body weight, and postural change.

During pregnancy, the body becomes more flexible due to hormonal changes. This helps to create space for the baby, and prepare for delivery. Increased flexibility, together with increased body weight and change in posture, calls for better muscle strength and endurance to control posture and movement. Optimal muscle control is the key to pain free movement.

While massage, maternity belt and kinesio taping provide temporary pain relief, training up the muscle system is crucial for longer-lasting effect. At Physio Edge, we help you to establish a simple daily exercise routine to achieve long-lasting pain relief. We also help to establish other daily habits to promote healing.

Addressing the issue early helps to prevent the pain from persisting beyond pregnancy.

Diastasis recti after delivery

Every mom experiences diastasis recti due to pregnancy. In most cases, the body heals itself in the 6-12 months after delivery. However sometimes the healing process may not be optimal, impairing the force transmission among the abdominal muscles, leading to problems such as back pain, pelvic pain, incontinence, as well as a protruding tummy.

To treat diastasis recti and its accompanying symptoms, an appropriate strengthening program is the key. The exercises need to be well-balanced to adequately activate the correct muscles yet not over-exerting the system at the same time.

At Physio Edge, we guide you through a step-by-step process to maximize the outcome for diastasis recti.
